Unhelpful Thinking

Lot’s of things can affect the way we think and feel about ourself. These can include our experiences, relationships, our values and beliefs. This can lead to use developing what is known as a core belief.

Core beliefs are the thoughts and ideas we hold about ourselves, others and the world. These beliefs become the filter that we see the world through. We all have different core beliefs and different filters, that’s why people experiencing some situations may feel or behave differently.

Watch to find out more about a core belief…

Our core belief and rules for living can result in “cognitive distortion”

Cognitive distortion sounds fancy but it just means exaggerated or irrational thoughts that can affect

  • our feelings
  • our mood
  • our behaviour

We can develop NAT’s…

NATs can affect our mood and the way we think, feel and behave.

Lets look at some examples…

We can develop NAT’s without being aware of them

We have to….

  • Identify the thoughts that are affecting our feelings and behaviour.
  • Reframe these thoughts or add a “but…”  they haven’t messaged back they are with someone else but they are probably just in the shower”
  • Remember thoughts aren’t facts
  • Remember that core beliefs are thoughts not facts

Catch the NAT- Acknowledge it – Challenge it – Let it go
